Recommended Classes at Affiliated Institutions

Our highly qualified instructors teach classes offered by several fine educational institutions in the Philadelphia area, including the Restaurant School and Temple University at Fort Washington. The information below describes some of these course offerings. To register for a course offered by an affiliated college or university, you should sign up directly with that institution.

Wine Courses from The Restaurant School

Our Phillywine.com instructors have taught a number of classes at the Wine Academy of the Restaurant School. Notable among these is the "First Growth" wine course.

First Growth Wine Course: This 10-week series of classes is an informal introduction to the world's wines. Classes are accessible enough for beginners, yet instructors' level of wine knowledge will be substantial enough to handle the questions of advanced students. Students taste six or more wines per week, keyed to the evening's topics.

Certified Specialist in Wine (CSW) option. Walnut Hill College (the Restaurant School) is one of the first colleges in the country to offer the official "CSW Training Program," which features stunning Powerpoints and other educational tools provided by the Society of Wine Educators (SWE). Participants in the First Growth course have an option to choose this "SWE Option," which includes the SWE's comprehensive Study Guide and its impressive Online Wine Academy, as well as one attempt at the CSW exam, offered each December and May. The CSW option requires a surcharge over the regular price for the First Growth course. The Study Guide, online access and the exam alone usually cost substantially more than this surcharge, which makes this CSW option an exceptional value. Contact the Restaurant School's Wine Academy for more information.

To register for this or other Restaurant School wine courses, contact the Restaurant School's Wine Academy online or at 267-295-2367.

Matching Wine with Cheese: It's not as easy as some people think. This two week series of classes will provide some valuable insights-- and some delicious wines and cheeses. Classes are accessible enough for beginners, yet instructors' level of wine knowledge will be substantial enough to handle the questions of advanced students. Students will taste a world-wide selection of wines and matching cheeses (or cheeses and matching wines).

Wines for the Holidays—Without the Stress: This class focuses on helping you choosing wines to serve during the holiday season, from Thanksgiving through New Year's. Topics include matching wines with foods, impressing friends at parties, and choosing wines for the holidays on a budget.

World's Greatest Wine Values. The title of this three week series of classes is self-explanatory. Make your wine dollars go farther without sacrificing quality. Students will taste 9-12 wines each week, featuring great values for your holiday entertainment (fall sessions) or summer relaxing (spring sessions).
